Workshop "Future images Green U" - 30 years of free space first. Weiter geht`s!

In the context of the IBA'27 Festival #1, there is the opportunity to explore the Green U in the context of a walk. Stuttgart landscape architect Christof Luz will accompany the excursion and provide expert explanations of the impressive planning history of this diverse open space structure in the heart of the metropolis.

Afterwards, people will meet at the IBA`27 festival headquarters to think together about the future of the Green U. What messages does the Green U have for us today? How can we continue to think about it? What images of the future do we want to formulate?

The workshop will be conceived and moderated by academic staff members of the HfWU Nürtingen-Geislingen. Artistic-participative and co-creative methods are used under the moderation of Dr. Ellen Fetzer, Karl Michael Drohsel and Anna Szilágyi-Nagy. The bdla BW accompanies the workshop with the landscape architects Urs Müller-Meßner, Michael Glück and Christof Luz as well as Oliver Bräuer for the DGGL BW.

Walk and workshop are explicitly aimed at all those interested in sustainable urban development in Stuttgart.

Im Rahmen der IGA 1993 entstand das sogenannte "Grüne U", ein über 8 km langer Grünzug, der vom Neuen Schloss in der Stadtmitte über den Killesberg bis in die Feuerbacher Heide und den Kräherwald führt und zu Fuß erwandert werden kann. Dabei wurden der Leibfriedsche Garten und der Wartberg für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht sowie mit dem Rosensteinpark und dem Höhenpark Killesberg verknüpft.

Aufgrund seiner Größe, Lage und Ausstattung ist das "Grüne U" von besonderer Bedeutung für die städtebauliche und ökologische Situation in Stuttgart. Es ist auch heute noch ein wegweisendes Vorbild für eine nachhaltige Stadtentwicklung. Das Projekt steht exemplarisch für eine mutige und innovative Freiraumplanung, die wir heute im Kontext des Klimawandels dringend brauchen.
 
Die Gesamtplanung oblag damals den Landschaftsarchitekten Prof. Hans Luz und Partner gemeinsam mit den Büros Egenhofer/Bidlingmaier/Dübbers (Architektur), Schlaich Bergermann Partner (Ingenieur-bauwerke) und Billinger (Verkehrsplanung) sowie dem Künstler Hans Dieter Bohnet (Wasserkunst).

Für die Betreuung der Planung und Ausführung bildete das Garten-, Friedhofs- und Forstamt der Stadt Stuttgart eine eigene Projektgruppe.
