About us

We are Hamburg. As the city's largest employer, we ensure that Hamburg remains the most beautiful city in the world. We have jobs as colorful as life itself.

They actively help to shape Hamburg, for example by further developing the "Green Network", Hamburg's open space network system, creating sustainable recreational and open spaces for the people of the Hanseatic city, ensuring the protection of animal and plant species and their habitats or contributing their concerns to interdisciplinary urban development processes.

Get to know us as part of the 24-month technical traineeship! This is a preparatory service for a career as a civil servant. You will pass through many different departments of the city and learn interdisciplinary skills directly in practice. You can currently start on 1.10.2024. We offer you long-term career prospects and a meaningful job. With us, you can help shape and develop your skills in a wide range of complex projects.

Here you can find more information about the traineeship and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg as an employer. You can also listen to the podcast with Karen Pein, Senator for Urban Development, about working in our authority.

Your tasks

You:

undergo a combination of practical work, training, excursions, nationwide courses and working group appointments over 24 months

gain interdisciplinary insights into the city's broad range of tasks (with a focus on the Department of the Environment, Climate, Energy and Agriculture) and learn about the context of your future working environment,

build up a broad professional network beyond the field of landscape planning and nature conservation,

understand the deeper contexts of administration and, after successfully completing your studies, take on management tasks or complex projects in your future career,

learn content from the specialist areas of administration, law, leadership, management, planning, operations and finance in addition to your studies and complete the state examination at the end of your traineeship. It is recognized nationwide and enables you to be taken on as a permanent civil servant.

You must be no older than 39 years of age at the time of recruitment. You are also a German, EU or EEA national. Exceptions are possible in individual cases.
