More than 360 landscape architects attended the 22nd bdla Construction Manager Talks in Bochum on 26 and 27 January 2018.

As has been the case for more than 20 years, the focus was on various topics from the fields of construction law, construction technology and construction management.

In his welcoming speech, bdla Vice President Stephan Lenzen stated that the prospects for the profession could hardly be better. Landscape architects are the problem solvers of our time. While digitalization will change one thing or another in the future, cue BIM, the landscape architecture profession is largely AI-proof. - Other industries are likely to see massive job losses due to artificial intelligence (AI).

As in every year, a legal topic opened the round of lectures: bdla legal advisor Dr. Sebastian Schattenfroh spoke about supplements and claims in the construction phase, also according to the new law on contracts for work and services, which came into force at the beginning of January. A perennial favourite of the construction managers' talks is the report by Markus Illgas, the specialist for construction technology and standards, on new and amended regulations and standards.

Other presentations dealt with the planning of urban water fields, the product-neutral tendering of playground equipment, the amendment of DIN 18915 and quality characteristics for woody plant supplies. On the second day of the event, construction practices in wall building and possible pollutant loads in synthetic turf surfaces were on the agenda. Last but not least, the Cologne fire director Georg Spangardt explained the requirements for fire brigade access roads from the point of view of the fire brigades.

To round off the event, the participants went on an excursion on Saturday afternoon. In bright sunshine, the Westpark Bochum, the outdoor facilities of the Hochschule Ruhr West in Mülheim as well as the outdoor facilities Phoenix See were visited under the expert guidance of the responsible planners.
