The Bundesstiftung Baukultur invites you to the Baukulturwerkstatt "City and Bicycle Mobility" in Karlsruhe on 3 and 4 May 2018.

Concepts and strategies for bicycle-friendly urban redevelopment are the focus of the free workshop, which is aimed at building professionals from all disciplines, representatives from municipalities and industry, and interested members of the public.

More and more people are switching to bicycles: In many places, the car-oriented city is being scaled back and converted, while the bicycle is moving into the spotlight as an inexpensive, exercise-promoting, environmentally friendly and space-saving mobile. Cities such as Münster, Berlin or Karlsruhe have elevated the bicycle city to a model - with considerable, mostly positive consequences for image and cityscape.

The Baukulturwerkstatt begins with a joint bike tour or a guided city walk on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 2:30 pm. The evening event with colloquium and reception will take place at the Center for Art and Media (ZKM) from 5 pm.

What are the architectural-cultural and infrastructural-technical effects of changing mobility behaviour and supply on urban space? What role will bicycle mobility play in the design and planning of urban infrastructures - such as roads, bridges, rental and transfer stations - and public open spaces for a city of the future? Speakers and participants will discuss this topic at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) on Friday, 4 May 2018, at the invitation of the Bundesstiftung Baukultur and its partners, including the bdla.
