bdla was a guest at the congress of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group on "Building - Living - Housing".

On 29 January 2020, the CDU/CSU parliamentary group had invited to the congress "Building - Living - Living" in the German Bundestag. Federal Minister of Construction Horst Seehofer and the parliamentary group chairman Ralph Brinckhaus emphasized the social necessity and economic importance of construction.

Two aspects that have a central impact on the professional field of landscape architects can be singled out from the many statements: The Ministry of Construction will establish a federal authority for rural areas in order to promote the equivalence of living conditions in cities and rural areas; this authority is to be supplemented by a "small town academy".

Urban development funding is to be explicitly oriented towards the goals of increased quality, including of the residential environment, as well as towards the guiding principle of the "green city". Relationships between the city and the surrounding area are to be promoted and are thus a starting point for concepts of large-scale networking of "green infrastructure".

The Lord Mayor of the City of Essen, Thomas Kufen, and the President of the Federal Chamber of Architects, Barbara Ettinger-Brinckmann, also spoke out in favour of more flexibility in the regulations. Ettinger-Brinckmann called above all for a change in the Building Use Ordinance so that more lively neighbourhoods could be created.

Dr. Robert Kloos, General Manager of the Federal Association of Garden, Landscape and Sports Ground Construction (BGL), also spoke on behalf of the bdla of the necessity of equipping all open spaces, including buildings, with more greenery in times of climate change. He brought it to the point with his statement "Green belongs in the middle of our cities".

On the subject of "digital, sustainable and climate-friendly", it was reported that the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Construction have set up a "BIM" competence centre for building construction. All those involved in construction are to "speak in one language". For the bdla, this means an increased commitment to the topic of BIM. So far, aspects of open space have been insufficiently incorporated into the development of the content of this new instrument.
