On 6 November 2020, the Federal Government adopted the current progress report on the German Adaptation Strategy. It aims to make Germany climate-proof with more than 180 measures, including against risks from high and low water or disrupted infrastructures.

As a new instrument, the Federal Environment Ministry is launching a funding programme "Climate adaptation in social institutions" with up to 150 million euro. This will provide targeted support to social institutions, for example for structural changes such as green roofs and facades, the construction of shady pavilions and sun sails or the purchase of drinking water dispensers.

Applications from financially weak municipalities and non-profit associations received by 30 June 2021 can in some cases receive up to 100 percent funding.
