The prize, which is awarded every three years, primarily honors qualitatively outstanding design achievements in the planning and realization of projects; the honored individuals must live in Munich or the Munich region and must have achieved something significant for local artistic life.

The jury's statement reads: "Andrea Gebhard has earned a highly regarded reputation in her many years of practice as a Munich landscape architect. She convinces not only with particularly appropriate, aesthetically and ecologically valuable plans, but also through her great personal commitment in numerous committees.
Particularly noteworthy is her state and national, often critical commitment to urban planning and landscape architectural issues, as currently on the subject of the Bavarian State Development Program LEP. (...)

As a long-time head of the department of green planning in the department of urban planning and building regulations of the state capital Munich, as managing director of the BUGA 2005 in Munich, as chairwoman of the German Academy for Urban and Regional Planning and as an active representative in the Association of German Landscape Architects, her involvement with questions about a livable city and landscape goes far beyond the usual. In many projects and honorary positions, she has contributed significantly to the quality not only of the open spaces in the city, but also to a livable environment, especially for the state capital of Munich.(...)"
