She goes on to write: "We already have to get involved in the discussions about the building's positioning. A new building has to be planned with the immediate surroundings and thus also with the existing plants. An old tree is an expensive asset (...). But not only avenue and park trees must be protected. Even more so, those plants that arise spontaneously on fallow land and "strive" towards the sky are all the more worthy of protection, as they are particularly established at the site and thus more robust."

In particular, the issue deals with the growth, preservation and ecosystem services of urban trees, urban tree sites. However, exciting and pioneering projects are also presented, such as the park "Planten un Bloomen", design author POLA Landschaftsarchitekten, which won the German Landscape Architecture Award 2023 competition, and the bunker on St. Pauli, which is being wrapped in roof and facade greenery at an airy height according to the plans of Landschaftsarchitektur Holzapfel-Herziger undamp; Benesch PartGmbB, Hamburg.

For a long time, work was done against nature. Our observations and knowledge now help us to deal with it more sensitively and to change things.
