The Green for Town and Country initiative is made up of the leading associations of the green sector: Bund deutscher Baumschulen (BdB) e.V., Bund Deutscher Landschaftsarchitekt:innen bdla, Bundesverband Garten-, Landschafts- und Sportplatzbau e.V. (BGL) and Zentralverband Gartenbau e.V. (ZVG).

The representatives of the associations Hajo Hinrichs, BdB President, Prof. Stephan Lenzen, bdla President, Matthias Lösch, BGL Vice President, and Jürgen Mertz, ZVG President, stated: "Site-appropriate planning and the functioning design of green infrastructure in urban and rural areas is essential for dealing with the consequences of climate change. This requires a targeted administrative framework: acceleration procedures should take into account the interests of nature conservation and it must be possible to use plants in a location-appropriate manner. There is a particular need for research into biodiversity and climate adaptation. It goes without saying that plant production must be ensured. The challenges of water use and the sustainability of production in relation to integrated and biological plant protection are important topics for horticulture."

The association representatives agreed that the German government's Natural Climate Protection Action Program is an important step towards making the green infrastructure fit for the future and expanding it further. The green sector has a key role to play in this process. The dialog with the Federal Minister is therefore an important signal for the joint achievement of objectives.
