The members of the International Working Group were able to hold a series of interesting and intensive discussions at the liaison office of the Federal Chamber of Architects in Brussels on April 18/19, 2024.

The representative of the Permanent Representation of Germany to the European Union, Environment Attaché Cyril Freitag, provided information on the legislative process of the Nature Restoration Law. Unfortunately, the Council of Environment Ministers at the end of March did not reach a majority for the final formal adoption. Attempts will be made to promote the law again at European level.

With the representatives of our European umbrella organization IFLA Europe, President Katerina Gkoltsou and Vice President Didier Vanctusem, we exchanged views on jointly coordinated networking and the current status of a common training framework for landscape architecture. The first day of the meeting ended with an event organized by IFLA Europe as part of the New European Bauhaus Festival with a keynote speech by Andreas Kipar on redesigning European landscapes through innovative solutions, followed by a panel discussion.

The next day, the working group had an intensive discussion with representatives of the Directorate-General for Climate Action on current initiatives to combat climate change, the elements of the EU climate agenda and the contribution of landscape architecture to nature-based solutions for climate protection. All representatives encouraged us to raise constructive and critical issues and offer to keep in touch. The working group also encourages participation in the informal online exchange "Team IFLA". This format is open to all bdla members.
