Members of the International Affairs Working Group once again held fruitful discussions and an in-depth exchange with representatives of the European institutions in Brussels.
At its two-day meeting on 10 and 11 June 2026, Steffi Schüppel, the committee’s spokesperson, welcomed Benjamin Rolles from the Directorate-General for the Environment to discuss the Restoration Regulation. The discussion focused on the current state of implementation and the next steps for implementing the regulation in Germany.
Discussions were held with Jonas Scholze and Lorène Baron-Sauce from the Urban Initiative on various activities relating to sustainable urban development in Europe. Three practical examples demonstrated that, at local authority level, a range of open-space projects co-financed by the EU can be implemented efficiently and with low barriers to entry.
IFLA Europe President Indra Purs was also a guest. Discussions with her focused on the priorities of the newly elected IFLA Europe Executive Committee, as well as opportunities for closer professional policy cooperation with the Liaison Office of the Federal Chamber of Architects. Ruth Schagemann, Managing Director of the BAK Liaison Office, emphasised that personal exchange and ongoing dialogue form the basis for effective advocacy on professional policy issues.
