Representing the bdla, Mario Kahl and Martin Janotta held a very positive and cordial discussion with Lutz Brinkmann (CDU), a Member of the Bundestag.
We were particularly pleased with the technical depth of the discussion: as a civil engineer with professional experience in engineering and architectural practices, Mr Brinkmann engaged with us on a refreshingly competent, equal footing – we could clearly sense that we were on the same professional wavelength. We were very impressed by his keen interest in the topics we discussed.
Among other things, the discussion centred on the current hot topics of housing shortages and infill development. In doing so, we were able to highlight the importance of landscape architecture and landscape planning for high-quality infill development and sustainable urban planning. Particularly when it comes to infill development, the quality of open spaces, climate resilience and liveable neighbourhoods are crucial factors for long-term success.
Another key topic was the ongoing amendment to planning legislation. We were able to ask: What are the objectives of the CDU-CSU parliamentary group, and what is the current state of discussions in ‘his’ Bundestag Committee on Housing, Urban Development, Construction and Local Authorities? We were able to outline the bdla’s recommendations for climate-just urban planning legislation. Our clear position is that, alongside the necessary acceleration of procedures, climate adaptation in particular must be enshrined as a central component of the amendment.
Finally, we highlighted the urgent need for an amendment to the HOAI. Here too, Mr Brinkmann showed great interest – and we agreed to hold further concrete discussions.
Constructive dialogue between politicians and the bdla is a matter of great importance to us. We would like to thank Lutz Brinkmann for listening to our views and showing a clear interest in sustainable urban development. We look forward to continuing this dialogue.
