Strong partnership launched
to promote high-quality landscape architecture Since March 2026, the Federal Association for Housing and Urban Development (vhw) and the Association of German Landscape Architects (bdla) have been linked by a cooperation agreement aimed at enhancing the professional qualifications of bdla members.
Building on existing successful collaborative projects – such as the training courses on environmental construction supervision, urban tree species in the context of climate change, and the sustainable design of outdoor spaces – the aim of the agreement is to pool specialist knowledge, capitalise on synergies and make practical professional development even more specifically accessible to landscape architects.
With immediate effect, bdla members and staff at bdla offices can choose seminars, webinars or events from the vhw training portfolio at the reduced vhw member rate. The range of courses on offer extends from environmental law and climate protection, through urban planning law, urban development and public participation, to public procurement law, digitalisation and communication. Particularly at the interfaces between planning, administration and law, this opens up a broader range of professional development opportunities, fostering specialist expertise and strengthening one’s role in the planning and consultation process. For landscape architects, this is an opportunity to further develop their confidence in taking action – both when collaborating with local authorities and in dialogue with policymakers and the public.
So how does it work? As a bdla member, when booking an event, please enter ‘Member price as a bdla member’ in the ‘Comments’ field. The cooperation agreement between vhw and bdla offers many open-space and landscape planners the opportunity to develop their own expertise and, in turn, provide professional impetus for sustainable urban and open-space development!
