On 8 November, the fifth nationwide ‘Day of Renovation Culture’ will take place. The Federal Foundation for Building Culture is calling for greater public awareness of the potential offered by renovation work on existing buildings. Planning firms, local authorities, those working in the construction industry and community initiatives are invited to present their projects and ideas.

The action day, which stems from the presentation of the ‘Neue Umbaukultur’ (New Culture of Renovation) report on 8 November 2022 by the Federal Foundation for Building Culture, aims to promote sustainable, resource-efficient and cost-effective construction. This is because existing buildings contain not only ‘grey energy’ but also ‘golden energy’: a distinctive architectural language, integration into the established surroundings and an identity-forming effect. These intangible values make existing buildings a valuable resource for building culture.
