On 18 September 2025, the members of the working group met once again in Erfurt for their annual meeting. Chaired by Markus Illgas, the meeting focused on current developments in technical regulatory work, standardisation and procurement practice.
With regard to regulatory work, information was provided on DWA-A 138 Part 2 ‘Facilities for the infiltration of rainwater’, the draft of which will be available from October 2025 and which contains sample calculations for infiltration facilities. The FLL recommendations on infiltration and water retention are due to be published shortly. Work on the FLL sports ground maintenance guidelines is expected to be completed in 2026. The joint regulatory work by the FLL, DWA and FGSV on infiltration at tree planting sites is currently under consultation. The draft of DIN 18920 ‘Vegetation Technology in Landscaping’ has recently been made available.
Another key focus of the meeting was the revision of the DIN 18035 series of standards on sports facilities. Among other things, Part 1 (Outdoor facilities for games and athletics) is due to be available as a draft by the end of the year. Topics under discussion within the standards committee include safety distances, inclusion and the inclusion of the term ‘football pitch’. Regarding the use of recycled concrete, it was noted that, due to the heterogeneity of the material, practical experience should be gathered and evaluated in order to draw up a proposal for an FLL set of regulations where appropriate.
On the subject of ‘contract awarding’, it was noted that, in practice, rates often fall below the HOAI minimum rates, causing qualitative criteria to lose their significance. The working group therefore advocates greater transparency, particularly through price indices.
Due to high demand, the ‘Specialist Knowledge: Green-Blue Infrastructure/Sponge City’ event will be repeated from 18 to 20 March 2026 at Erfurt University of Applied Sciences.
