Seminar
content
: Ongoing climate change is presenting cities worldwide with growing challenges. In particular, the urban heat island (UHI) effect leads to significant health and environmental pressures.

Against this backdrop, the first instalment of the bdla special seminar ‘Urban Climate and Quality of Life – Climate Adaptation as a Planning Task’, focusing on the theme ‘Heat, Health and the Role of Landscape Architecture’, is aimed at professionals in the fields of landscape architecture, urban planning and related disciplines, as well as representatives from cities and local authorities, to discuss key issues relating to the climate-resilient development of our cities.

The event
focuses on gaining a deeper understanding of the interrelationships between the urban climate and human health. Specialist presentations provide scientifically sound principles that form an essential foundation for high-quality planning processes.
Knowledge of how climate adaptation measures work enables planners to make targeted decisions and enhance their effectiveness.
This helps to reduce heat-related health risks and safeguard the quality of life in urban areas in the long term. A site visit rounds off the seminar at the end.

The seminar forms part of the bdla’s 2026 campaign theme: ‘Landscape Architecture – Climate Change – Health’.
