Cities are growing. This trend is irreversible and has now also reached the capital Berlin. Growing cities are becoming metropolises and interrelationships are emerging between regions across administrative and national borders.

The conference on 29 September 2017 in Berlin-Hoppegarten will focus on the development of the urban-rural area in the area of tension between growing metropolises and growth cores as well as the future of rural areas that lie outside these growth zones.
In the course of the event, we would like to present examples of existing supra-regional planning instruments and current projects and place them in the context of green infrastructure. To this end, we will present successful projects that work across municipal/district or state borders in Berlin and Brandenburg and discuss their exemplary nature as planning instruments.

At the conference, implementation-oriented approaches will be linked with instruments and funding opportunities and condensed into theses for the further development process. Approaches to networked planning in the context of green infrastructure will be presented.

The conference is intended as an impulse to advance the development process of the Berlin-Brandenburg Metropolitan Region as an overall project.
