In cooperation with the Senate Department for Education, the bdla Berlin-Brandenburg and Grün macht Schule, the State Advisory Council for School Construction invites you to the workshop discussion "Outdoor spaces and open areas at schools".

The spectrum of functional requirements for outdoor spaces and open areas in schools is wide. It ranges from outdoor learning spaces to play, exercise and sports areas to areas for education, communication, recreation and relaxation. In addition, there are various functional areas such as access roads, rainwater infiltration, car, refuse and bicycle parking spaces.

The recommendations of the expert working group on school space quality describe in Part III "Social Spatial Opening" the essential qualitative requirements with regard to a child-friendly, sustainable and climate-effective green outdoor space design. It can be seen that there is a high degree of overlap in the content of the qualitative and quantitative dimensions of the different usage requirements.

New school buildings and the renovation of existing school facilities open up opportunities to discuss and coordinate the interests of both schools and the public. Due to size or location, not all school sites can meet the requirements described.

The State Advisory Council for School Construction invites to a workshop discussion to develop further possibilities for action to qualify school outdoor spaces and open areas. For this purpose, a panel of experts has been invited to develop cross-competence proposals in four working groups.

Location: Neighborhood House Urbanstraße e.V. Urbanstraße 21, 10961 Berlin.
