The Berlin Senate wants to demolish the stadium in the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark, the bdla Berlin-Brandenburg and the Berlin branch of the BDA demand that the plans be stopped.

Eike Richter, regional chairman of the bdla, explained: "With the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark and the adjacent Mauerpark, Berlin possesses a sports and leisure landscape that is unique in Germany, if not in the world, which combines top-level and popular sports and links them with Berlin's green infrastructure. The valuable stock of trees and the historically unique layout of the stadium, the listed Hinterland wall and the grandstand for karaoke events in Mauerpark, all of this must be carefully restored and not brutely redesigned!"

Especially against the background of climate protection, waste avoidance and resource conservation, the demolition should be questioned. The possibilities of a rebuilding of the stadium are to be examined deepened planerisch, demand the professional associations.

Julia Dahlhaus, state chairwoman of the BDA, demands, "The Senate would be well advised to carry out a serious, early public participation involving the stadium issue and to have concepts designed for this unique site in an open-ended competition. Berlin deserves better!"

To this end, a master plan for the entire site and a design for the stadium should be developed within the framework of an interdisciplinary competition for architects and landscape architects.
