The bdla Berlin-Brandenburg, in collaboration with the Berlin University of Applied Sciences (BHT), is hosting a symposium on the Berlin Climate Adaptation Act. The event will take place on Thursday, 25 June 2026, from 10.00 am to approximately 5.00 pm in the Ingeborg-Meising-Saal at the BHT (doors open from 9.30 am).
The focus is on Berlin’s Climate Adaptation Act, which, amongst other things, provides for the planting of up to 600,000 new trees. The associated challenges for planning, administration and implementation – particularly in terms of staffing and funding – will be discussed in detail during the conference.
The event will examine the implementation of the Act from various perspectives and bring together stakeholders from the fields of planning, administration, academia and practice. Three thematic panels are planned:
- Requirements for urban tree sites in the context of climate change – with a focus on changing climatic conditions and practical examples from Berlin’s districts
- Urban green spaces in the context of climate change – exploring the interrelationships between climate change, urban planning and best-practice approaches
- Blue-green infrastructure and urban regeneration – addressing issues of groundwater, piped infrastructure and land reallocation in the context of urban trees
The specialist presentations will be complemented by panel discussions, which will provide a forum for exchange and expert debate.
