The 2025 award for the best Bachelor’s thesis was presented to Annalena Bresin. She had written her thesis on the topic ‘Women’s Contributions to Garden Design in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania – an analysis of historical and contemporary scope for design’. The thesis was supervised by Professor Dr Caroline Rolka and landscape architect Petra Schoelkopf.

This Bachelor’s thesis examines the role of women in both historical and contemporary garden and landscape design in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The study focuses on female figures who, as princesses, duchesses, clients or landscape architects, were involved in various ways in the processes of garden design, even if they were not at the forefront of the planning. The thesis highlights the contribution of these women, which has been largely overlooked to date, identifies existing gaps in research and encourages a shift in perspective towards gender history within garden and landscape research.
The student had already presented her thesis publicly last year as part of an event organised by the bdla regional association of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, where it aroused great interest, as these aspects of landscape architecture have hitherto received insufficient attention.

Chairwoman Carola Morgenstern and Treasurer Enno Meier-Schomburg, representing the bdla Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Regional Association, presented the award during the matriculation ceremony at Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences in the Konzertkirche and presented Annalena Bresin with a book as a gift.
