With the opening of the price also for projects of conceptual kind the bdla nw shows for the first time, which is able to carry the profession beyond the classical object planning in the monument and landscape protection, in things climatic adaptation and ecological Revitalisierung.

The jury awarded three projects with the nrw.landschaftsarchitektur.preis 2022, one project received the Future Award, and three other projects received recognition.

The award winners

Greenbox Landschaftsarchitekten Hubertus Schäfer Markus Pieper PartG mbB from Cologne were awarded a prize for their project Spielraum für Alle - Neue Freiräume in der Sozialen Stadt Bernberg. The jury praised the "high design, social and functional quality and the system-immanent participation of the citizens" also in details.

"With the ecological revitalization of Westerwaldstraße in Cologne, the office WES Landschaftsarchitektur delivers a planning that demonstrates in an exemplary manner the role of landscape architecture in the integral planning management of the challenges posed by climate change, soil pollution and social segregation," was the jury's verdict on the award for the landscape architects from Hamburg.

Another prize was awarded to bbzl böhm benfer zahiri landschaften städtebau from Berlin, which designed the State Garden Show Kamp-Lintfort 2020 - Zechenpark und Quartiersplatz. Here, the jury honored a multifaceted and contemporary landscape park that takes on a variety of tasks.

For the first time, the jury also awarded a Future Prize. This went to the office L-A-E Landschaftsarchitekten Ehrig undamp; Partner mbB for the care and development concept Glacis Minden. The jury particularly appreciated the fact that the office went beyond all the popular buzzwords and set out on a challenging path - the office's expertise in garden history supplemented by a highly sophisticated technical analysis in the field of soil and vegetation science. The result is a strategy laid out in hundreds of pages of expert reports and 62 plans that show how further damage to the stand can be contained through proper maintenance and nutrient removal, and how the character of the glacis as a whole can be saved for the future by planting appropriate climate-adapted tree species.

In addition, the jury awarded three commendations. The Osnabrück office Lohaus Carl Köhlmos for the redesign of Konrad-Adenauer-Platz Gütersloh. The project is exemplary for the perseverance and persuasiveness of landscape architects and for the climatic and social welfare effects of inner-city green spaces.

The second recognition went to wbp Landschaftsarchitekten GmbH from Bochum for the Student Housing / Variowohnen in Bochum. "The design with a common environment with three courtyard situations is unpretentious, serviceable, but also innovative and technically on the cutting edge," the jury said.

The third recognition went to the planning office dtp Landschaftsarchitekten GmbH from Essen for the development study Flusslandschaft Mittleres Ruhrtal. Here, the jury particularly appreciated that the themes of the Middle Ruhr Valley were carefully identified in this work and convincingly translated into images. Images that make people want (and have the courage) to enhance, strengthen and present regional qualities.
