The event has been cancelled!

Light is an essential design element in public spaces. It creates atmosphere, provides orientation and safety, and allows people to enjoy open spaces even in the evening and at night. At the same time, the focus is on the impact of artificial lighting on the environment, biodiversity and resource consumption. So how can light be used in a way that is both creatively effective and responsible?

The continuing professional development course ‘Night.Space.Light. – Consciously designing lighting in outdoor spaces’ focuses on the various requirements for contemporary lighting concepts in outdoor spaces. The course centres on both design and technical aspects, as well as legal requirements and issues relating to environmental protection and species conservation.

Using real-world examples, the course examines how light and shadow shape spaces and how luminaires themselves can become design elements. In addition to the fundamental requirements for lighting public spaces, current developments such as biodynamic lighting and adaptive lighting control are presented.

Another key focus is on intelligent lighting concepts in the context of the Smart City: what applications do connected and demand-driven systems offer? What conceptual requirements must be taken into account at the planning stage? And what contribution can they actually make to energy efficiency and the conservation of resources?

At the same time, in view of light pollution and its effects on insects, bats and other nocturnal animals, a fundamental question arises: how much light do we actually need? This training course explores ways of reconciling design quality, safety and user requirements with the needs of species conservation and environmental protection.

A factory tour at LEIPZIGER LEUCHTEN and a visit to the lighting park will complement the specialist presentations by providing insights into manufacturing, technology and specific applications. A concluding discussion session will offer the opportunity to explore the day’s topics in greater depth together and to exchange experiences from planning and practice.
