On 8 December, representatives from the Association of German Architects (BDA), the Association of German Interior Architects (bdia) and the Association of German Landscape Architects (bdla) met at the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction to meet with Parliamentary State Secretary Sören Bartol, Member of the Bundestag, for an in-depth discussion on the future of construction.

In an open and respectful discussion, key issues relating to current construction and architectural policy were explored further together. The focus was on:

  • The BMWSB’s key priorities for construction policy in 2026 and the question of how the associations can provide expert guidance and support for the upcoming processes.
  • The significant potential of the existing building stock as a key resource for affordable housing, climate-focused transformation and responsible urban development.
  • The ongoing amendment to the Building Code (BauGB) and which ideas from the fields of building construction, interior design and landscape architecture are particularly valuable for a forward-looking legal framework.
  • Issues relating to the competitive tendering process, including fresh perspectives from practice and joint considerations on quality assurance procedures.

All participants emphasised the importance of close, ongoing dialogue, both between the associations and the Ministry and within the planning disciplines themselves. The discussions are to be continued and explored in greater depth on the individual topics.

Representing the BDA, bdia and bdla were: (from left to right) Thomas Welter, Alexander Pötzsch, Sören Bartol, Carsten Wiewiorra, Mario Kahl and Mandy Heinrichson.
