Landscape architect Botho Schwarz passed away on 29 September 2025 at the age of 74 in Eltville am Rhein, where he had been living.

On 12 March 2002, the then bdla President, Adrian Hoppenstedt, proposed Botho Schwarz as the association’s new treasurer on behalf of the Executive Committee at the Advisory Board meeting in Lübeck. He had put himself forward for the post after having been responsible for the finances of the bdla’s Hesse regional group from 1995 to 2001. For a full three terms of office, from 2002 to 2008, Botho Schwarz managed the affairs of the federal association responsibly and meticulously – in close consultation with the Executive Committee and the then Federal Managing Director, Ingeborg Paland.

Born in Berlin, he obtained his university entrance qualification at the Evangelische Schule in Frohnau and studied landscape planning at the Technical University of Berlin. In 1977, he left Berlin for the West and worked as a landscape planner, first at the Planungsgruppe Bad Homburg, then at Wolf-Dieter Kamphausen’s practice in Wiesbaden. From 1980 to 1983, he was a co-owner of the Planungsgruppe Freiraum und Siedlung in Wöllstadt. From 1983, he ran his own planning practice; for 18 years it was based in Wiesbaden and, since 1 November 2001, has been based in Oestrich-Winkel in the Rheingau. He was registered with the Hessian Chamber of Architects in 1982 and admitted to the BDLA in 1989.
