The Working Group on Education held in-depth talks and expert discussions in Berlin on 21 and 22 November 2025. The focus was on current developments in landscape architecture studies and teaching, structural changes at university campuses, and issues relating to ensuring the quality of education.
Representatives from the BHT presented the degree programmes in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Construction and Green Space Management (dual) and Urban Plant and Open Space Management. Of particular interest to the working group members were the strong practical focus, project-based teaching methods and the close links with industry partners such as vocational schools and the horticulture and landscaping sector. The continued high number of applicants was also noted positively.
Against the backdrop of announced funding cuts to the landscape architecture programme at TU Berlin by the Berlin Senate, the working group emphasised the importance of both university and college-level training programmes and called for increased collaboration between TU Berlin and BHT. Further topics included reaccreditation procedures, the appointment of new professors, planned new degree programmes and relocations. There is uncertainty at some sites due to cost-cutting measures, vacant professorships or structural reorganisation. There was an in-depth discussion on how the quality of education can be safeguarded in the long term – whilst maintaining high numbers of applicants for landscape architecture courses.
On 24 April 2026, the first University Day for Landscape Architecture will take place in Berlin. In collaboration with the Federal Student Council for Landscape Architecture, the Higher Education Conference on Landscape Architecture and the Federal Association for Garden, Landscape and Sports Ground Construction, workshops are currently being organised on the transfer of expertise between academia and practice, on safeguarding university locations, and on skills development.
