At the meeting on 22 January 2026, the Executive Committee’s discussions centred on preparations for the 2026 Advisory Board meeting and the association’s strategic direction in light of the challenges posed by climate change and their impact on health and resource use.
Prof. Stephan Lenzen presented his conceptual ideas on how to establish the theme of ‘Health – Climate Adaptation – Landscape Architecture’ as a key focus area for both professional practice and association policy. Activities already underway underscore the relevance of this thematic area: The bdla took part in the parliamentary dialogue series “Health in the Context of Climate Change” organised by the Centre for Planetary Health Policy, as well as in the BMWSB’s “Green-Blue City” agenda, particularly within the framework of the action programme on health and urban green spaces. With the 1/2026 issue of the association’s magazine, as well as accompanying online and social media posts, the topic is also firmly established within the communication strategy. Furthermore, preparations are underway for the Federal Congress of the Green Associations on 12 June 2026, which will focus on “Health and Urban Greenery”. From a technical and conceptual perspective, the scope is complemented by the development of an association position on the ‘allergy-free city’ by the Working Group on Plant Use, as well as the further development of the position paper ‘Planning for Physical Activity – Designing for Health’ by the Working Group on Sports Facilities and Physical Activity Spaces.
A second key area of focus was the preparation of a climate and resource assessment for the association’s working practices. At its last meeting, the Advisory Board had instructed the Executive Committee to develop appropriate criteria and approaches. This was prompted by a motion from bdla Hamburg to amend the travel expenses regulations – with the aim, amongst other things, of no longer reimbursing domestic flights in future. The Executive Committee is currently working on a proposal for the structural implementation of climate-friendly association work, which will be presented to the Advisory Board at its meeting on 17 April 2026.
