Decided! Baden-Württemberg Landscape Architecture Prize 2024

The competition for the Baden-Württemberg Landscape Architecture Prize 2024 has been decided under the patronage of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for Regional Development and Housing.
In the jury meeting at the Haus der Architekten Stuttgart on November 24, 2023, the jurors, led by jury chairman Timo Herrmann, landscape architect bdla, assessed the 18 projects nominated in the first round of judging.

The Baden-Württemberg Landscape Architecture Prize 2024 goes to the project

  • First prize
    "Der neue Grünzug Nordost - Mannheim verbindet "
    Author of the design: Büro RMP Stephan Lenzen Landschaftsarchitekten, Bonn / Cologne / Hamburg / Mannheim / Berlin.

In addition to the first prize, the special prize "Sustainability and climate adaptation in urban areas" and awards in advertised categories were also presented.
The Audience Award was determined online in the public online voting in the period from August 16 to November 24, 2023.

    Pfaffengrunder Terrasse, Heidelberg, designer: capattistaubach urbane landschaften, Berlin

  • Category"Health, education, leisure, play and sport"
    Walckerpark, Ludwigsburg, designer: koeber Landschaftsarchitektur GmbH, Stuttgart

  • "Use of plants, green roofs and façades" category
    Europaplatz - Stadthallenplatz, Nagold, designer: freiraumconcept sinz-beerstecher böpple Landschaftsarchitekten PartGmbB, Rottenburg / Stuttgart

  • "Audience Award"
    Fischkinderstube, Edingen-Neckarhausen, Author:inside: IUS Theobald Plus GmbH, Heidelberg
    An audience interested in architecture, bdla members, architects, urban planners, engineers and other industry players as well as readers of the trade magazine FREIRAUM GESTALTEN
    voted on the online voting platform to determine the Audience Award until November 24, 2023.

21 landscape architecture firms had registered a total of 41 submissions for participation on the competition platform by June 23, 2023. In the first round of judging, the judges selected the best 18 projects that were built and completed in Baden-Württemberg in the period between January 1, 2017 and the announcement on May 2, 2023 separately from June 30 to July 23, 2023 and nominated them for the second round of judging.

Award ceremony
The award-winning projects will be honored at the festive award ceremony on 16 April 2024, Hospitalhof Stuttgart.
The invitation will be available here from February 2024.


Review
The premiere of the competition for the Baden-Württemberg Landscape Architecture Prize was celebrated in April 2022, with the "Neue Ufer Überlingen" project by relais Landschaftsarchitekten Heck Mommsen PartGmbH, Berlin, being awarded first prize. The exhibition with the award-winning projects was shown at the garden and state garden shows BW in Neuenburg am Rhein 2022, Eppingen 2022, Balingen 2023 and currently until October 8, 2023 at the BUGA Mannheim 2023.
