Eike Richter, chairman of the BDLA regional group Berlin/Brandenburg (bdla bb) was invited by the Federal Parents' Council to give a lecture at its hybrid spring plenary session on 27.03.21 in Berlin on the subject of "Sustainable school open spaces as learning and experience spaces".

The Bundeselternrat (Federal Parents' Council) is the umbrella organisation of the Länder parents' associations in Germany. Through its members, it represents the parents of around 8 million children and young people at general and vocational schools. The Federal Pupil Conference will also be taking part in the conference from 26-28 March 21.

At the conference under the theme "Educational world(s) of the future, education for sustainable development and digitalization", future perspectives of education after the Covid 19 pandemic and the associated state of emergency will be discussed: In addition to school open spaces, the topics are "Schools of the Future" and "Covid-19: Digitization and Teaching".

The bdla bb very much welcomes the fact that the Federal Parents' Council assigns the topic of school open spaces a similarly high relevance as digital learning and school forms of the future. The bdla bb has been working intensively on the topic of school open spaces since 2018 and has written a thesis paper in the course of the school construction offensive of the state of Berlin as well as organising seminars and a specialist conference.

The main objective of the bdla bb's activities is to sensitise all stakeholders to the fact that school open spaces, both in new construction and in the refurbishment of schools, represent an indispensable component of a sustainable learning and exercise environment, which will become even more important as an important counterpart in the context of digitalisation. School open spaces also take on important ecological and functional tasks for school locations and their surroundings and require qualified planning. Through targeted participation, they can decisively strengthen the school community.
