On 26 November, the next instalment of the “LAconnects” event series took place. This time, the MERA Landscape Architecture for People and Space practice, based in Bahrenfeld, opened its doors and welcomed guests with punch, bread with lard and mandarins.
The 2nd LAconnects meeting was held under the theme ‘AI in Everyday Office Life’. Ms Eileen Reimers-Gaedicke, a systems engineer at the IT service provider SVA System Vertrieb Alexander GmbH, led the event with her presentation, focusing on a basic understanding of artificial intelligence, regulatory and legal frameworks, what makes for a good prompt, and the typical sources of error in AI.
The concluding discussion, which could only scratch the surface of many topics and questions, showed that the subject definitely calls for a follow-up event, ‘AI 2.0’, next year. Which AI makes sense for which phases of projects? What limitations should be borne in mind with free AI offerings, and for which AI is a licensed version advisable? Is the gap between ‘small’ offices and those with many employees widening? Is it worth investing in in-house programming? This wide range of questions, combined with the high number of guests, has confirmed to the organisers, Helge Baake and Krischan Payne, together with host Johannes Hügle, that they should continue with this new format and its topics.
