Inclusion in the planning of outdoor exercise areas

The "big break" is the "favourite subject" of all school children and the schoolyard is therefore an important space for movement, balance and sport in the school day, in addition to the offers in the clubs and in the informal leisure area. Here, unrestricted opportunities for movement and recreation are to be offered to all pupils, regardless of their different abilities and development.
A schoolyard, the design of which not only takes accessibility into account, should enable all pupils and teaching and support staff to participate in equal measure. In doing so, a schoolyard must be exciting and interesting, offer challenges in a variety of ways, inspire the imagination to move, and at the same time be a space for physical and social development.

The focus of the symposium "Schoolyards - Play and Movement Inclusiv(e)" is to address the topic of schoolyard design in the focus of inclusion.
Based on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities for Equal Participation in Society, which has been enshrined as national law in Germany since 2009, this must be taken into account in every construction measure.

The symposium will start with an introduction to scientific findings that go far beyond basic rights. The developments of the last years as well as recognizable trends from the pedagogical and sports didactic point of view lead to the "large-scale" questions of the tension between accessibility and the topography. In addition to the experiences gathered in inner-city areas, a look is taken at rural areas. Examples from practice that follow the idea of inclusion, skate parks and promising, digital movement offers provide participants with insights into the many ways in which inclusion can be lived out in schoolyard design. Information on digital planning aids and presentation techniques will show tools of modern drawing and presentation techniques.

For the financing of inclusive measures ways for the procurement of conveyances are pointed out, and practice examples at already lived measures in the context of the excursion are visited.
A Rolli Parcour is to the participants supplementing and as practical experience field locally at the disposal.

Target group
The symposium is aimed at all those who are responsible for the planning and design of schoolyards, outdoor play and exercise areas at the building owner and decision-maker level in the administration of cities, municipalities, schools and day-care facilities for children, and at landscape architects, architects, urban planners, engineers and experts from neighbouring disciplines who have been commissioned with this work.
