Intact landscapes, with their tangible and intangible functions, are more important than ever for the future of human coexistence. The climate crisis, species loss and growing demands on land use show that good plans are not enough – what matters is their implementation across the board.
This is precisely where the ‘Future of the Landscape’ symposium organised by bdla Lower Saxony + Bremen comes in:
it explores how regional and local planning can address current challenges – in an integrated, effective manner that is closely attuned to local and regional circumstances. Examples from landscape framework planning, climate adaptation and assessment practice demonstrate how new requirements are incorporated into planning and evaluation – and support sound decision-making.
Among the projects presented is the landscape planning project ‘Ruschsand – A River Island Through the Ages’ by Planungsgruppe Grün GmbH from Bremen, which was awarded the North German Landscape Architecture Prize 2026.
‘Dare to create more landscape’ – under this title, the bdla calls for landscape to be understood more strongly as a shared design task. The symposium planned for 24 November 2026 in Hanover takes up this impetus: join the discussion, share your experiences and work with us to develop ways of shaping sustainable and liveable landscapes as an active response to the climate and biodiversity crisis.
