The lecture series ‘Zukunftsraum Landschaft’, organised by the Association of German Landscape Architects (bdla), the German Society for Garden Art and Landscape Culture (DGGL) and Leibniz University Hannover, will address the following topic on 26 October 2026: ‘Glowing Cities – How Open Spaces Ensure Urban Wellbeing’.
Climate change is already being felt in towns and cities. More frequent and prolonged heatwaves are putting a strain on people, infrastructure and urban green spaces. In densely built-up neighbourhoods in particular, heat and pollutants build up, whilst the night-time cooling effect fails to materialise. Municipal heat management is therefore becoming a key priority for the future.
The speakers will demonstrate how landscape architecture can contribute to making towns and cities more heat-resilient in the future.
