The climate in our cities is changing. In addition to heavy rainfall events, it is becoming warmer, drier and more extreme at peak times. It is necessary to counter this circumstance with sustainable solutions in order to develop open and urban spaces for the future.Strategies for the development of new planning approaches to increase the amount of vertical green space in cities will be demonstrated by examples. The different types of vertical green require rethought buildings. This has a direct impact on structural design and the use of materials.Landscape architecture serves not only the expert knowledge from vegetation science, but also the creative, creative performance of design and technical planning. In combination with existing open spaces in the vicinity of the site and other greened objects, the building becomes, in the best case, a novel part of an overarching green concept.

About the lecture series
Landscape architecture provides essential areas of knowledge for the formation of this new third greening dimension of our cities. The series of events will provide an insight into the projects of internationally active landscape architects, who will report on their work experiences in a globally networked world undergoing climate change and on the answers that a design discipline can provide to social changes.
