In times of noticeable climate change, high demands in the field of environmental protection and nature conservation as well as the increasing consumption of natural resources, sustainable planning and building is on everyone's lips, not only in the "green industry".
The world and society have evolved rapidly in parts not least on the theme of "fridays for future". And the Corona pandemic directs our gaze as if through a "burning glass" on the consuming society, its actions and actions. At the same time, the healing effect of nature, forests, landscapes and the availability, quality and functionality of public open spaces in cities are particularly in focus. Many things that were unthinkable a short time ago could soon be possible, feasible and realisable - or so we hope.
The use of resources, materials and construction methods also depends on the lifestyle demands of society. Are the available options, processes and construction methods sufficiently known in planning practice and are they usually proposed and implemented as a matter of course? Can recycled building materials be used in the same way and what should be considered when using them?

Topic
Our cities and communities are still under great pressure. Urban and open space planning must face the Herculean task of rapidly creating new and affordable housing while maintaining and developing sufficient healthy open spaces that allow people to live comfortably in the city. All this against the more urgent premise of mitigating the effects of climate change in our cities.
Which climate adaptation measures are effective and enable people to live healthy lives? What role can a stable green infrastructure play in this process, which permeates the entire urban organism and connects it with the region? How can green spaces be permanently established in the city? What hurdles exist, especially in accelerated times? And how can they be overcome in an interdisciplinary way?

A [Federal] Garden Show is not a show of flowers!
It is an outlook on the future development of our natural, built and designed environment. And landscape architecture? It designs livable and sustainable open spaces and places in incredibly diverse facets.
Our profession's generalist and/or specific view of the world considers social, ecological and economic conditions, depending on the task at hand - thus forming the primordial soup of all visions. In doing so, we are dependent on the constant input of the latest developments and the interdisciplinary dialogue with experts from all disciplines.
In our series "Today in the Facet Realm..." we combine this expert knowledge with our professional know-how and illuminate current topics of the day in a "melange queerbeet" with illustrious guests from the profession, society and business.
Spiced with a pinch of culture, we invite you to an entertaining view of the future of our environment:
