The aim of Munich Roof Garden Day is to show people the potential that roofs offer: as green oases, as refuges for animals and plants, as spaces for relaxation and leisure, as places of learning, for energy generation, or even a combination of these functions.

The City of Munich is once again organising the ‘More Green for Munich’ competition to recognise outstanding efforts in greening courtyards, front gardens, outdoor spaces, rooftops and commercial areas. Entries can be submitted until 30 June 2026.

The bdla Bavaria joins in commemorating Volker May and expresses its gratitude for his valuable contribution at the interface with landscape architecture.

On 26 January 2026, the bdla Bayern announced the 4th Bavarian Landscape Architecture Prize. The organising partners are the Bavarian Chamber of Architects and the Association of Garden, Landscape and Sports Ground Construction in Bavaria; the media partner is *Garten + Landschaft* (Georg Media).
The deadline for submissions is 6 April 2026.

Against the backdrop of the upcoming local elections in Bavaria on 8 March, the ‘Paths to a Better LEP’ initiative has launched the campaign ‘We know Bavaria, we can shape the future’. Through a series of nine video clips, the alliance – comprising specialist organisations, professional associations and stakeholders from the fields of planning, landscape management, environmental protection and heritage conservation – aims to contribute to an objective discussion about the future of Bavaria’s regions.

Every year, the bdla Bayern presents its Young Talent Award to recognise outstanding and pioneering final-year projects from Bavaria.
In 2025, the awards go to Johanna Herbst, Merlin Pott, Franziska Mees and Julian Treffler. You can find out here what the graduates explored in their Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.
The prize-winners will present their theses at the bdla Bayern general meeting on 20 February 2026. The awards ceremony will also take place there.

The news came as a surprise on 4 December via the Alumni Club Landschaft (ACL) at the Technical University of Munich, in the form of an obituary written by Prof. Regine Keller. Our much-esteemed Prof. Christoph Valentien passed away on 2 December 2025.
We, the bdla Bavaria and its members, mourn the loss of a remarkable individual, a confident and visionary designer, landscape architect and professor.

With informative presentations and stimulating discussions, the project ‘Landscape Planning in Bavaria – Local and Innovative’ drew to a close on 7 October 2025 at the Nuremberg Press Club during the second Bavarian Landscape Summit, in a relaxed atmosphere. The project’s closing event, after five years, also marked the start of more innovative and sustainable landscape plans across Bavaria.

On 26 January 2026, the time will finally come again: we will be awarding – for the fourth time now – the Bavarian Landscape Architecture Prize in cooperation with the Bavarian Chamber of Architects and the Bavarian Association of Garden, Landscape and Sports Ground Construction, and we look forward to receiving exemplary competition entries featuring projects realised in Bavaria. Entries can be submitted and edited online until 6 April 2026.

The next Meet & Eat will take place on 20 November from 5.30 pm – this time at the Uniola GmbH offices in Munich. The event offers students, bdla juniors, those starting their careers and anyone interested in the fields of landscape architecture and urban planning an informal platform to get to know one another, network and exchange professional ideas. It is organised by the junior representatives of bdla Bavaria.

Professor Emeritus Dr Dr h.c. Wolfgang Haber, one of the most eminent and highly decorated pioneers of landscape ecology and nature conservation in Germany, celebrated his 100th birthday on 13 September 2025. The bdla extends its heartfelt congratulations to the honouree and honorary member and wishes him continued good health and creative vigour!
