The winners of the Bavarian Landscape Architecture Prize, now in its fourth year, have been announced.
At the awards ceremony on 30 October 2026 at the Oskar von Miller Forum in Munich, bdla Bavaria once again honoured pioneering projects in landscape architecture. A main prize, six awards and the 2026 People’s Choice Award were presented.

In three online sessions, Prof. Dr Olaf Schroth, holder of the Chair in Landscape Information Models at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences, and our junior representative Jakob Endemann will provide a practical insight into GIS and the open-source software QGIS.
The sessions will cover fundamental concepts, geodata sources and typical workflows – from spatial analysis to further processing in other planning programmes.
The series is aimed at landscape architects, landscape planners and others working in the field of planning, particularly those with little or no experience of QGIS and a background in CAD or ArcGIS. Rather than a step-by-step software course, the focus is on illustrative examples and providing opportunities for questions and professional discussion.

In 1956, seven decades ago, the Institute for Landscape Conservation – now part of the TUM School of Engineering and Design – was founded at the Technical University of Munich. In the period following the post-war reconstruction and during the subsequent economic miracle, this was a highly forward-thinking move.

The bdla Bavaria was asked by the Bavarian State Ministry for Housing, Construction and Transport to comment on the draft bill on the digitalisation of building control procedures.

The Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts is currently planning to reorganise and merge various museums. According to current plans, this would also affect the TUM Architecture Museum.
Not only is the TUM Architecture Museum’s archive the largest specialist collection on architecture in Germany, but the TUM Architecture Museum is, above all, the only museum dedicated to architecture in Bavaria. Furthermore, alongside the German Architecture Museum in Frankfurt (DAM), it is one of only two architecture museums in the whole of Germany. Furthermore, for 25 years it has served as a venue for the interested public, where architecture is explained, discussed and information provided.

On 9 September 2026, the TUM Architecture Students’ Association (Fachschaft Architektur e.V.) launched a petition to the Bavarian State Parliament, which can still be signed until 8 March 2027.

Over the past few months, the organisers of ‘Baumentscheid München’ have worked tirelessly to bring more trees to Munich and thus provide greater protection against the heat.
And with success! The required number of signatures has now been significantly exceeded. These will be submitted to the District Administration Office shortly.
The next step will then be either the direct adoption of the citizens’ petition, a referendum, or a negotiated solution with the City Council.
The initiative was founded in spring 2025 by two students at the Technical University of Munich: Joseph Coenen (25, BSc in Landscape Architecture, MSc candidate in Urban Planning, CSU) and Stefanie Günther (25, BSc in Psychology, MSc candidate M.Sc. in Politics & Technology, Greens).
Together with 150 volunteers and 50 partner organisations, the pair have been working over the past few months to make Munich greener and better equipped to cope with heatwaves.

Professor Emeritus Dr Dr h. c. Wolfgang Haber, one of the most prominent and highly decorated pioneers of landscape ecology and nature conservation in Germany, passed away on 13 August 2026 at the age of 100. The bdla mourns the loss of its honorary member.

The Bavarian Academy for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management (ANL) is celebrating its 50th anniversary! For half a century, it has been bringing together education, science and practical experience. Through a wide range of training courses, specialist conferences and publications, the ANL fosters expertise in nature conservation and beyond.

On 9 and 10 July 2026, some 600 participants from the fields of landscape architecture, urban development, horticulture, academia, politics, business and civil society gathered at the Holzmarkt 25 in Berlin. Under the theme ‘Connection’, this year’s edition of URBAN UTOPIA used plants as a common starting point for professional exchange, new collaborations and discussions about liveable, climate-resilient cities.

At its inaugural meeting on 3 July 2026, the 14th General Assembly of the Bavarian Chamber of Architects re-elected architect and town planner Prof. Lydia Haack as President of the Chamber, thereby placing its trust in her for a further five years. Landscape architect and town planner Franz Damm was also elected Vice-President for the second time; he had once again stood as the lead candidate on our ‘Landscape Architects bdla’ list. In addition, architect Doris Lackerbauer was elected Vice-President.

Melanie Rihm has been the new branch manager of bdla Bavaria since 15 May 2026. The landscape architect impressed the bdla Bavaria board with her combination of many years’ practical professional experience, a high level of commitment and her motivation to further develop the association and position it for the future.

To strengthen the practical focus of our landscape architecture programme, we will be collaborating with the Akademie Landschaftsbau Weihenstephan GmbH in future. As an institution of the Bavarian Association for Garden, Landscape and Sports Ground Construction (Verband Garten-, Landschafts- und Sportplatzbau Bayern e. V.), it has been providing practical further training in the green sector since 1995.

The ‘Wege zu einem besseren LEP’ initiative, which has been active in Bavaria for many years, is campaigning for a sustainable regional development programme. The recently launched campaign ‘We know Bavaria. We can shape the future’ is beginning to bear fruit: On the 7 May 2026 edition of Bayerisches Fernsehen’s ‘Abendschau’, Dr Georg Beyerle reported on an exemplary, co-operative housing project in Wolftatshausen and interviewed Ariane Jungwirth, Chair of the Bavarian Chamber of Architects, and Barbara Weihs, the Bavarian Association of German Landscape Architects (bdla).

BaumEntscheid München is a not-for-profit initiative that aims to make Munich heat-resilient by 2040 – to protect the health, the economy and the social inclusion of all Munich residents. This aim is to be achieved through a referendum at the end of 2026.

Thanks to the disproportionately high turnout among landscape architects, our list was able to gain one additional seat – despite an overall lower turnout.
We will now be represented in the Assembly of Representatives with 13 seats, making us the second-strongest list in terms of votes!

Through this scheme, the City of Würzburg is providing grants for a range of measures that will be of interest to property owners.
